Poll Finds 80% Of Moms Don’t Worry About Kids’ Weight

With heightened concerns over childhood obesity by marketers, it’s surprising that a new poll find 80% of moms aren’t worried about their kids’ weight.

AS CONVERSATIONS HEAT UP ON Capitol Hill about marketing fat to kids, most Americans mothers aren’t concerned about their kids’ weight.

Responding to a poll from Woman’s Day magazine and AOL Food, 36% of respondents said they eat fast food at least once a week, with 16% saying they consume it two or more times a week.

The majority–or nearly 60%–admitted they are most likely to reach for junk food when they are stressed, with cookies and candy ranking as most popular. And nearly 80% said they are not concerned with their childrens’ weight.

The poll of 2,500 American women conducted on AOL.com from March 15, 2007 to April 15, 2007, revealed this contradiction: 80% believe eating healthier would be easier if cost weren’t an issue; yet 85% said their actual eating habits were not influenced at all, or only a little, by the cost.
