F.T.C. Asks if Carbon-Offset Money Is Well Spent

The FTC wants to know if carbon off-setting is actually an effective environmental initiative. We are hearing the term carbon offsets in just about every industry these days, especially marketing.

There is currently a tremendous concern among environmentalists about the use of terms that imply a positive environmental spin. The FTC has not updated environmental advertising guidelines since 1998.

Corporations and shoppers in the United States spent more than $54 million last year on carbon offset credits toward tree planting, wind farms, solar plants and other projects to balance the emissions created by, say, using a laptop computer or flying on a jet.
