Americans seem to be drinking less beer, but the beer they are drinking is certainly better, more expensive beer. Consumers have upgraded their beer brands and are becoming more sophisticated drinkers.
WHILE BEER DRINKING HAS DECLINED since 2003, the imported-beer market penetration has held steady, says Chicago-based Mintel. Between 2001 and 2006, imported beer’s market share increased by 2.3%, which the consultancy says is the highest market share gain among all alcoholic beverages.
