Study: Baby Boomers Love Social Networks Too

Study: Baby Boomers Love Social Networks Too

Social networking sites used by teenagers and young adults are also being adopted by baby boomers (aged 44-61). The findings show that 41% of baby boomers have visited social networks, such as MySpace or Facebook, and 61% have been to sites with streaming or downloadable video.

The study, which surveyed 11,600 consumers online, also found that over 57% of Web users overall have stopped at social networking sites in the past three months. Baby boomers stopped on average of eight times in that period.

Interesting observation. As a Baby Boomer who has been aware of social networks for a couple of years and actively using several of them for the past year, I’d have to agree that I find a lot of fellow Boomers in the social networks, with the numbers seeming to grow monthly.

I don’t believe you can count the Boomers out when it comes to sical networking. Heck, my 78 year old mother, who’s part of the (I think) “Silent Generation” is actively reading blogs these days. I wouldn’t put it past her to start writing one… who knows what she’ll try after that!!
